![]() LEED/ Sustainable Sites Initiative Certification The main Pavilion will be certified at the Gold or Platinum level under the US Green Building Council's LEED rating system. The Pavilion's feature's include geothermal heating and cooling, solar thermal hot water heating, vegetated roof surfaces, water reuse systems, and energy/water monitoring dashboard systems Canal Park is also a candidate for certification under the Sustainable Sites Initiative. The Sustainable Sites initiative is a joint effort by the American Society of Landscape Architects, the United States Botanic Garden, and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. It is a certification program similar to LEED but for landscapes, and is currently in the pilot phase. Storm Water Management/Water Reuse 100% of water falling on site and pavilions and much of the water collected from the rooftops of buildings adjacent to the Park will be collected in underground cisterns located at the southern end of the Park. The water will be filtered through a large rain garden along the eastern edge of the Park and reused for irrigation, fountain and ice rink water, and toilet flushing in the Pavilion. Tree boxes and bio swales will also provide filtration for street-level runoff surrounding the Park. Electric Car Charging Stations/Bicycle Parking The Park design includes infrastructure for electric car charging stations and plentiful bicycle parking racks. Sustainable Maintenance CPDA currently maintains the grass on the future Park site with emissions free, battery-powered equipment and will continue to do so after the Park is completed. CPDA is committed to minimizing the use of synthetic chemical pesticides and fertilizers. |
