Canal Park Development Association, Inc. ("CPDA") is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established for the purpose of promoting, designing, fundraising for, building and maintaining the Washington Canal Park. The CPDA board and staff have extensive experience in developing and managing residential and commercial properties throughout the DC region.

Christopher VanArsdale, Executive Director
Chris VanArsdale is executive director of the Canal Park Development Association, Inc., (“CPDA”) overseeing redevelopment of the Washington Canal Park. He is a mayoral appointee to the Sustainable Energy Utility Advisory Board and a DC Council appointee to the Green Building Advisory Council, overseeing DC’s new Sustainable Energy Utility and Green Building Act, respectively. Prior to joining CPDA, Chris developed multi-unit residential buildings with a focus on energy and resource efficiency, healthy interiors, and renewable energy systems. He was a founding member and served for eight years as chairman of the board of directors of GreenHOME, Inc., a non-profit organization whose mission is to make affordable housing green. Before entering the development field, Chris practiced law, specializing in environmental law and brownfields redevelopment. His educational background includes a bachelor's degree from Harvard University (1989), a master's in environmental management and resource economics from Duke University (1993), and a law degree from Cornell Law School (1996).
